Colson Skips

A waste management company in the East Midlands

What’s this Post about?

When people fill their skips, it often includes a range of different types of rubbish, from old furniture to garden trimmings and soil. You may be wondering where all of your rubbish goes when using a skip- after all, it all has to go somewhere! There are many different places that skip waste ends up, including recycling centres, landfill sites, specialist facilities, green energy and more. In this blog, we will discuss what happens to skip waste throughout the whole process.

What happens to skip waste – Does it get recycled?

Contrary to popular belief, skip waste does not always end up in landfill sites. Skip companies like Colson Skips will recycle as much waste as possible. Some companies will go the extra mile and have a dedicated waste transfer station, making it even more likely that your waste will be responsibly recycled. Before the waste gets taken to the different waste disposal sites, there are some stages that the waste needs to go through first.

What happens to skip waste and what are the stages?:

  • Sorting – Skips carry many different types of materials. These are all carried back to the supplier’s site before they are sorted into different materials. Any items that are large will be removed so they can be separated into different materials.
  • Treatment and processing – Each waste category will be sorted by type and stripped into subcatagories. For example, soil will be screened and rubble will be crushed.
  • Disposal – All of the waste that has been sorted and processed can now be recycled. Some other items can be transferred to specialist companies at this point too. For example, fabrics, scrap metal, topsoil and aggregates. Some of the materials will be reused, such as scrap metal and timber. Everything that can be recycled will be during this point.

Why is it important to dispose of waste correctly?

It is now widely understood that making great efforts to help the environment are needed in order to save our planet. Of course, in terms of the waste industry, this means disposing of waste in the correct manner- recycling where possible. People are growing more and more aware of the dangers caused by relying on landfill sites to dispose of waste. The UK is running out of landfill space, making the dangers clearer every day. To make matters even worse, a lot of the materials sent to landfills can actually be recycled.

By working together, we can create a more sustainable environment. This involves not just our local communities, this includes everyone across the whole globe. The problem doesn’t only occur for the fact that we are disposing of waste that will take thousands of years. The problem runs much deeper; by disposing in landfills, we are contributing to ground pollution as well as the release of harmful emissions.

On the bright side though, if we work together to ensure that waste is disposed of properly, we can also mitigate energy demands that are produced as a result of creating new products. For example, recycling and reusing aluminium uses up much less energy than creating new aluminium. Taking care of our environment should be of utmost importance for all of us.

How to choose a skip company that cares

It’s easy to choose the cheapest option when it comes to hiring a skip, but this isn’t always the best option. Often, skip hiring providers that offer cheaper rates don’t dispose of their waste in a way that is best for the environment. Opting for a company that is slightly more expensive but puts effort into choosing the best disposal and recycling methods is the best option. By choosing a company that takes responsibility for its waste disposal methods, you can be assured that you are helping the environment.

Here at Colson Skips, we make sure that the waste we collect is disposed of using the most thought out and environmentally friendly methods. While doing this, we understand that some people can’t afford any more than the minimum, which is why we offer a fair price, whilst ensuring that we put the environment first.
